YELLOW MILLS AND PRATT

I just cannot help listening Kwesi Pratt Jnr., the Managing Editor of the pro government newspaper, The Insight on Peace FM every Tuesdays.
He has turned into defending Professor Mills and Kofi Adams, aide to Rawlings put him right when he said his attacks and lying behaviors on President Rawlings must stop.
“So this lying behavior of Kwesi Pratt and to denigrate the Former President, because of the truth that he is saying which is pinching some people who have turned themselves into political parasites who are attaching their mouths to politicians should stop”, says Kofi Adams

He continued “he has his CPP, what has happened to the CPP, has he been able to organize the CPP and has he been able to organize his constituency too, we have our party and feel we want to re-structure our party so he should leave us as NDC people and focus on organizing his CPP”.

This happened just this morning on Accra based Peace 104.3 fm this morning! Enjoy reading but it was written earlier though.

President Professor John Evans Atta Mills is suffering from the continuous and ceaseless barbs of the man who plucked him from academic obscurity and set him off on the road to the presidency and political recognition. For now, however, he is not man enough to come out and stand toe-to-toe with his political mentor.About a month ago, I read with great interest the front page story of the pro-government Insight newspaper edited by Mr. Kwesi Pratt Jnr, and I found myself grinning from ear to ear about the sentiments expressed therein. I thought to myself; some people are too smart for their own good! Linking one to one, I could not help but laugh to myself about what is unfolding!
President Professor Atta Mills is beginning to feel the heat from the continuous barbs that Rawlings has been throwing his way, but unfortunately, it seems that for now he is not man enough, or that he lacks the bones’ to stand up to Rawlings and say that enough is enough!Since Atta Mills took over the administration of this country, I can count at least six separate instances when he has attracted the ire of his political mentor. According to Rawlings, Mills is too slow, he has surrounded himself with mediocre people, he is not looking after the ‘cadres’ of the revolution, he is allowing his officials to steal, and many more!
It would seem that at every turn, Rawlings has taken every opportunity to throw insults at Mills. In response, Atta Mills has shown commendable forbearance, but it would seem that Rawlings would just not let go! Like a bull-dog, he has been at it, taking bites out of Mills whenever the opportunity presents itself! It is in the light of the foregoing that I found the publication on the front page of the Insight newspaper yesterday, titled ‘Trouble In NDC?’ as being especially interesting.
First and foremost, the Insight newspaper of late has carved a niche for itself as a deeply friendly to the ruling NDC. Indeed, it spends much more time attacking the opposition and pandering the virtues of government than is seemly for a newspaper, particularly one edited by such a vociferous ‘crusader’ like Mr. Pratt.

The headline, ‘Trouble In NDC?’ seems more like one that I would cast on the front page of this newspaper, than one that Mr. Pratt would cast for his paper, yet there it was!
The answer, of course, can be found in the fact that Mr. Pratt is deeply friendly towards President Atta Mills, and vice versa. Both are Fantis, and one must read and hear some of the fawning proclamations of Mr. Pratt on Mr. Mills in recent times to understand where Pratt’s newspaper is coming from. It exists to protect Atta Mills! Again, Mr. Pratt has become a regular part of the entourage of Mr. Mills. At most public functions that the President attends, one would most likely see Mr. Pratt somewhere in the entourage, masquerading as a press man.
I, of course, am not deceived. He is there to protect Mills and to do presidential hatchet jobs where necessary, and that is exactly the light under which yesterday’s publication falls. What did the story say?

According to the publication, should sober heads in the NDC fail to act decisively and quickly, there could be an earthquake in the party sooner than later. According to the Insight, there is a huge conspiracy to undermine President Atta Mills, because some people are conspiring to ensure that he is a one-term president. In this direction, they are feverishly looking for a new presidential candidate for 2012, and their antics are being encouraged by the talk of Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, former President and founder of NDC, who has often publicly criticized the Mills Administration.
According to the publication, Mr. Rawlings seems to be mobilizing cadres of the party against the President, and it is hinted, deeply, that the anti-Mills coalition might even be plotting to bring up for attention the over-flogged issue of Mills’ health. The story is written by one my friend Livingston Charlie, but given Mr. Mills association with Mr. Pratt, and the latter’s close affinity for the NDC created by Rawlings, I have grave doubts as to whether such a publication would have seen the light of day, if powerful people, specifically Mills or people close to him were not worried enough about Rawlings’s antics to react!

Mills is fighting back at Rawlings, but for now, he apparently is too afraid to engage in a frontal attack, and is hoping that with his snide hints in the Insight edited by his friend Pratt, leading figures in the NDC would take the hint and act accordingly by attempting to rein in Rawlings! What I fear, though, is that Rawlings is highly unlikely to take the hint, and even if he takes the hint, to ignore it, which brings up the scintillating possibility that one day soon, Mills would say that enough is enough and come out swinging, with no gloves on!I can’t wait for that day!
